Just four years ago in 2015 Jackie Siegel lost her daughter Victoria Siegel to a drug overdose at the age of 18. Victoria overdosed on methadone and antidepressants.

In 2012 the family starred in the documentary “The Queen of Versailles”. The film was shot just three years before Victoria overdosed. The film highlighted the couple’s opulent mega mansion in Orlando.

They were determined to build the house in America for their eight children and their pets. Jackie spoke about her daughter and coping with public scrutiny and whether she regretted participating in the documentary.

Victoria’s mother learned of her journal, which chronicled a shocking secret life, after her death. Jackie made the determination to publish the journal as a book which she titled “Victoria’s Voice: Our Daughter’s Losing Battle with Drug Abuse”.

“Her dying wish in the form of a text was that she wanted me to find her diary where it was hidden and to publish it because she felt it would help save other teenager’s lives” said Jackie Siegel.

Victoria first got hooked on Xanax and after a couple of years she came clean to her mom and said that she needed to go to rehab. Along with the Xanax she also experimented with different drugs.

She was 18 when she went to rehab. While at rehab she met a 26-year-old man who had a court order to be there because of a heroin addiction. He had no intention of getting clean and he introduced Victoria to heroin while in rehab.

“I think the heroin epidemic is horrible. I know first hand what it’s like to lose a family member to drugs and I think that people and even the government should raise more awareness to the situation,” said senior Alesondra McKissick.

Just a month after being introduced to heroin Victoria was dead.
