54th Academy of Country Music Awards

54th Academy of Country Music Awards

On Sunday, April 7th, the 54th Academy of Country Music Awards were held at the Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. This was an amazing night as Reba McEntire hosted the awards for the sixteenth time. McEntire released information earlier that day according to CBS that she was going to keep the show, “…fun and not political.” She believes that country music is entertainment and should be kept separate from politics.

The night included many performers that all had phenomenal songs and shows; some of the most outstanding were Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, and Thomas Rhett. Not only were individual performances significant, but so were the duos. Dan + Shay performed with Kelly Clarkson for a superb collaboration.

Not only were the performances outstanding, but so were the outfits. Each year brings new extravagant clothing choices;  bright pantsuits, open backs, and lots of glitters were all a part of the mix.

There were no more than five nominees for each category, but of course, there could only be one winner. Here is the detailed list of the winners from over the weekend.

Entertainer of the Year: Keith Urban

Female Artist of the Year: Kacey Musgraves

Male Artist of the Year: Thomas Rhett

Duo of the Year: Dan + Shay

Group of the Year: Old Dominion

Album of the Year: “Golden Hour” By Kacey Musgraves

Wendy Powers, a huge country fan, stated, “I have always loved watching the country music awards, but this year did not seem to be anything extraordinary.”
