For three days, climate change activists in London have been working hard to bring attention to helping the environment.

A group called The Extinction Rebellion (XR) has been organizing the protests. They are trying to highlight the dangers of climate change. It’s how they decided to being the attention that has captivated the people of london.

On the third day of the protest, two protesters glued themselves to a train while others shut down major traffic routes. Police have made over 300 arrests.

The two protesters climbed onto the top of the train, glued themselves down, and then revealed a banner that read “Climate Emergency.” A third passenger who had glued his hand to the side of the train was shortly removed.

To remove the protesters, police climbed up onto the train and tried to get the passengers out of the glue. They were then put into a harness and lowered down.

Sophomore Kate Healy says “I think gluing yourself to a train is a little too extreme but sometimes you have to go to the extreme to make a change.”

XR has also blocked off major traffic ways such as Parliament Square, Marble Arch, Waterloo Bridge and Oxford Circus

The group said they hope the transport effect will cause something the group calls “The Pause” which is meant to “Create moments in time when humanity stops and fully consider the extent of the harm we have done and are doing to life on earth.”

XR said “We are in an ongoing rebellion against the government… It will end when the demands get met.” The group uses civil disobedience to bring attention to the importance of the cause, which is stopping the government from putting green house gasses into the atmosphere.
