    This year, the Boston Marathon took place on Monday, April 15th. The 2019 Boston Marathon was the 123rd to take place, with the first one in 1897. The marathon began with men and women in wheelchair at 9 a.m. After them came the handcycles and duos at 9:25 a.m. Next came the elite women at 9:30 a.m., elite men and wave one at 10 a.m., wave two at 10:25 a.m and wave three and four at 10:50 a.m.

    The race had over 30,000 entries, and 26,373 finishers. The top men finishers were Lawrence Cherono from Kenya with a time of 2:07.57, Lelisa Desisa from Ethiopia with a time of 2:07.59 and Kenneth Kipkemoi from Kenya with a time of 2:08.07. The top wheelchair men finishers were Daniel Romanchuk from Illinois with a time of 1:21:36, Masazumi Soejima from Japan with a time of 1:24:30, and Marcel Hug from Switzerland with a time of 1:26:40.

    The top women finishers were Worknesh Degefa from Ethiopia with a time of 2:23.31, Edna Kiplagat from Kenya with a time of 2:24.13 and Jordan Hasay from California with a time of 2:25.20. The top wheelchair women finishers were Manuela Schar from Switzerland with a time of 1:34:19, Tatyana Mcfadden from Maryland with a time of 1:41:35, and Madison De Rozario from Australia with a time of 1:41:36.

    The 124th Boston Marathon is scheduled for Monday, April 20th 2020. If you want to sign up for the marathon, you first need to have a qualifying time from 2018. If there are spots left after the elites sign up, you can register to run even if you don’t have a qualifying time. Lakewood resident, Ella Calleri, said, “I think that trying to get a good time for the Boston Marathon is a good goal to have. Maybe one day I will have the time to do it.”
