Donald Trump welcomed a womens sport team to the White House for the first time, and yes, they got fast food. The team that he had as guests were the Baylor Lady Bears, the 2019 NCAA women’s tournament champions.

Trump was judged multiple times for never hosting a women’s championship team in his years at the White House for their own event. In November of 2017, Trump hosted eighteen  men’s and women’s NCAA championship teams to the White House.

During the Presidency of Obama, Clinton, and Bush, WNBA teams were often brought into the White House for their accomplishments. NCAA women’s basketball have also visited the White House.

The head coach of the Baylor Lady Bears, Kim Mulkey, offered Trump several gifts, including a signed Baylor basketball, a hat, and a basketball jersey, which she joked may be a better gift for the first lady. Trump stated after receiving the gifts, “I’ll give it to Melania. You know, I love those short sleeves. Such beautiful arms. Great definition.”

Coming to the White House has been a controversial decision for some of the teams invited during Trump’s presidency. Many players from multiple teams refused these invitations. the Golden State Warriors, The 2017 NBA champions, declined the offer to go to the White House after winning the 2017 championship. This brought up a lot of controversy over political conflicts meshing with sports during this time.

Despite all the news, it looks like the fast food trend has become a thing. “Served on platters for the players of Baylor was an assortment of items from both McDonalds’ and Chick-Fil-A, much like the spread that president Trump served to the Clemson football team who won the National Championship earlier this year”(thesource.com).
