Lakewood High School students took home 41 awards from the annual Scholastic Art and Writing Awards that were held in December.

Five Lakewood High and Westshore students won Golden Key awards – the highest honor given at the event. Senior Natalie Costello and junior Nola Williams-Riseng took home two of these Golden Key awards for their drawings, illustrations, and photography.

Nola Williams-Riseng’s photograph “Erimari” was also nominated for an American Visions award – it is the highest regional honor, only one writer and one artist from each region are selected.

Lakewood High students were also awarded 15 Silver Key awards and several honorable mentions. Jane Kalinowski won 5 silver key awards for her drawings and illustrations and mixed media.

The annual competition is held at the Clevland Institue of Art and helps recognize all different types of art. The competition allows students from all around Northeast Ohio to get in touch with their creative side and get inspired to create something that represents their voice.

An awards ceremony will be held on January 18, 2020, at the Cleveland Institue of Art and their work will be on display on February 1, in their CIA gallery.
