Senior Sophia Miranda is finishing up hard training for conferences, that will be held on January 24, 2020. Her individual events are the 50 free and 100 free.

Sophia’s personal best time for the 50 free is a 27 and she swims a 59 in her 100 free. “My goals for conferences is to swim a 26 in the 50 free and a 58 in the 100 free.”

A few seconds may not seem like a lot but in the world of swimming cutting your time down by even one second is an extraordinary accomplishment.

The swim team has been training all season for conferences this weekend and they hope to send a few swimmers to districts. Sophia is confident she will move on to sectionals and then districts in February. “I expect to move up a few seconds in my 100 and 50 free as well as the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay at conferences.”

Sophia is sure her 400 relay will make it to districts. Swimming with her is freshman, Charlotte Beno, and Juniors, Sistina Simcox and Ethel Woodford. Together the girls hope to break a record and win some medals at districts.

Sophia has been swimming since she was 8 but does not plan to continue throughout college. She says her favorite part of being on the swim team is the people and once she leaves she will miss the team very much, but not enough to keep swimming through college.

Sophia Miranda and her team are excited to take on conferences and hopefully move on to districts. “It’s a lot of hard work but it pays off in the end.”
