    The Pros of Thrifting

    The Pros of Thrifting

Thrifting is a cheap and affordable way to spice up your wardrobe without harming the environment, you are able to alter clothing items more freely to fit you better and it gives you more creative freedom to match outfits to fit your personal taste.

The fashion industry is one of the world’s biggest polluters, by buying second-hand clothing you can help keep plastic out of landfills and positively contribute to decreasing worldwide textile demands and subsequent waste.

Americans throw away 10.5 million tons of clothing per year. The fashion industry is moving faster than ever and we are buying almost four times as many items than we used to, however they are not lasting as long because they go out of style or fall apart so we throw them out.

Thrifting is recycling. By thrifting and donating clothing items to thrift stores  such as Salvation Army, Value World, Savers,  you will be able to shrink your carbon footprint, you are limiting the amount of natural resources it takes to create new fabric.

thrifting is also good for your wallet. Most stores offer relatively lower prices compared to retail competitors. Not to mention many second hand clothes are a lot more durable than the ones bought from major retail stores, as they are still in good shape through so many years.

Junior Sam Saracina gives his input on the benefits of thrift stores in the community. “I’m glad we have so many outlets for thrifting because it is a great opportunity for everyone in the community to get quality clothes and furniture for a reasonable price.”

It is time to unless your creativity. Create your own style. A style that fits who you are, without breaking your wallet or the world. Thrifting is a great way to pass the time and be ethically responsible to the environment.
