Lakewood Named Best Community For Music Education

April 10, 2020
As long as I have remembered, Lakewood City School district has always had such an amazing music education program. For the fourth consecutive year, the Lakewood Schools have been awarded as one of the best communities for music education by the NAMM Foundation.
Out of all of the schools in Ohio, only 74 schools won and Lakewood was one of them! The award for best communities for music education is given to school districts which demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music and education access to all students.
To qualify for the award, school districts must answer very detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, how the community supports music programs and so much more!
In case you didn’t know, Lakewood has a lot to offer through the music education of the students such as:
- Music education is offered to students from Kindergarten to 12th grade
- Instrumental instruction starts in 5th grade
- Middle school students can take classroom band, orchestra and choir
- Middle school students can also participate in extracurricular groups like Strolling Strings and Jazz Band
- Lakewood High School has five orchestras, four choirs and three bands
- The high school offers classes in music theory, music history, pop music and keyboard
High School musical extracurricular groups include: the Lakewood Ranger Marching Band, the Lakewood Project, Chamber Choir and Jazz Band
As you have just read, Lakewood has a lot to offer in the music education area making them a well fit candidate for the Best Communities for Music Education award by the NAMM Foundation!
