Kid Cudi was the musical guest on SNL for their April 10th show, and to honor Kurt Cobain, who tragically died by his own hand 27 years ago on April 5th, he wore a green cardigan for his first song and a dress for his second. Under the cardigan from his first set, Kid Cudi wore a shirt with Chris Farley on it, to honor a former member of the SNL cast who died in 1997.

The cardigan Cudi wore, with the flannel and white t-shirt underneath, was an outfit designed to reflect Kurt Cobain’s iconic look. He wore this outfit while he performed a song from his new album “Man on the Moon III: The Chosen” called “Taquilla Shots.” During his second performance, he wore a floral dress that resembled that of the one Cobain wore on the cover of “The Face” magazine. Cudi told his designer that he wanted to “show love to Kurt [with] a floral print dress” while he performed his song “Sad People.”

Cudi’s act of tribute represented the pride in inspiration so many rappers feel; this inspiration is the very thing the rap genre is known for. Cudi not only showed that he wanted to honor a man who created beautiful music and also had an impact on many of his listeners and fellow artists, but he also showed that he was a rapper who truly understood the beauty and importance of the music he is creating.
