There are different types of art in the world, digital and traditional, all with different kinds of mediums such as markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc. This week in Art 4, as well as the following weeks, we will focus on Monotype printing. Monotype printing is a printing method that uses black ink on a clear acrylic board.

While you create your design, you should soak your paper in water for at least ten minutes. You then start by fully inking the acrylic board. You then create your design by using small squares, paintbrushes, paper towels, or the end of paintbrushes to scrape off the ink to create the design. Once the design is finished it would need to be rolled out onto a piece of paper. Each time it is printed it will become fainter and fainter. After the design is printed, different types of mediums can be used on it. You can use watercolor, pastels, or even markers.

No one knows where the origins of Monotype printing came from. All we know is what different types of printing there can be. Creating this type of art is what you want it to be, but when creating this type of art, the clearer the acrylic board, is the better.
