Are you looking for a club to help you fill out college applications or increase service hours by helping your community? Do you want the experience of running for a leadership position in a club that will teach you lessons about leadership and communication skills that you’ll need in the future? If your answer is yes, the National Honor Society would be an impactful option for you.

Each year, NHS accepts applications to join the organization. The applications include a requirement of 24 service hours, a list of clubs or sports you’ve been a part of, a letter of recommendation, any work experience and a minimum 3.5 GPA. Mr. Roth (the NHS teacher mentor) will review applications and the new inductees will be announced based on the applications.

Once a member of the NHS, you will be able to run for an officer position. The officer positions include president, vice president, sargeant of arms, treasurer and secretary. You are required to give a short speech and the other members are able to vote on who they believe will fill the positions.

As a member of the NHS, it is important to realize the mission and goals of the organization. It’s all about service and helping the community through one collaborative group. This can range anywhere from art to volunteering locally to make Lakewood a better place.

From what the Lakewood Times has gathered, this organization is a great stepping stone into an involved life beyond Lakewood High and can jumpstart a love of service to help our community thrive. For further questions, contact Mr. Roth by email at [email protected].
