On Monday, Oct. 4, the Varsity Girls Soccer team took on Cardinal Mooney at 6:30 pm. The stands were packed with young soccer girls cheering on the varsity girls. The soccer program is the fasted-growing girls program in Lakewood, and you could really see the younger girls looking up to the older girls as they made their way out on the field.

The Rangers were ready to fight against Cardinal Mooney as the clock started. With the youth in the stands, the Rangers took it upon themselves to show how great of a team they are. Annette Doren was the first to score at the start of the game. Whenever someone scores, the Rangers take great pride as teammates hug and jump to really celebrate whoever scored. Soon after Annette’s first goal, she scored another. The team and crowd went crazy as Lakewood was now winning 2-0.

With halftime approaching, Lakewood had the determination to score a couple more goals. Junior Mallory Zavatchen was able to score a goal with the crowd going crazy. Lakewood’s energy was higher than ever and senior Sylvie Ballou was able to score. The last three goals of the first half were assisted by junior captain Samantha Hudak to make the score 4-0 going into halftime.

At halftime, the youth soccer teams were announced and recognized as the Lakewood fans waited for the game to start again. At the beginning of halftime, Lakewood was still looking to score as their confidence grew higher. Next to score was Mallory Zavatchen with her 2nd goal of the night. Lakewood would continue to fight, ending the game 10-0.

The Rangers couldn’t have picked a better night to allow all the little kids to watch the varsity girls. Everyone on the soccer team did such an amazing job.
