Electric Charging Stations Coming to Lakewood

Electric Charging Stations Coming to Lakewood
Electrify America

An electric vehicle charging station could soon be installed at Lakewood High School. “We are happy to cooperate with the city to make this happen,” Lakewood School’s Superintendent Maggie Niedzwiecki told Patch. “The station will be installed in the North Lot on Franklin. We as a district are committed to be more environmentally conscious in our operations and are happy to cooperate with the city as it strives to do the same.”

The EV station would be constructed as part of the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) Electric Vehicle Charging Station Program. The agency plans to construct 48 EV stations throughout northern Ohio.

This will start to bring awareness toward our progressing plans to cut fossil fuels, which in turn will help our environment greatly. But do not expect serious change with fossil fuels until around 2060 when we will completely run out.

The stations would be installed as soon as spring and summer 2022. Once the stations are finished, they should be available for use by the general public.”Funding for the program, totaling $3 million, is being provided by NOACA through its federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) program, which aims to improve air quality and reduce congestion on the region’s roadways,” the agency said in a statement.

The $3 million price tag may seem like a lot just for some charging stations but it is a very valuable investment towards the future of our community.

The main goal is to bring better air quality to these surrounding cities that will have them installed, and push people towards using cleaner energy to preserve the environment. Using electric cars versus a gas-fueled car has many benefits towards our environment and economy. A few being: no fuel so you save money on gas, they do not emit pollutants, lower maintenance costs due to an efficient electric motor, and better performance overall.
