The very controversial topic of video games: are they good or are they bad? Right off the bat, they are neither more good nor more bad, there are both sides to this argument. Back to the beginning, the first video games were invented in 1958, and with such a huge market and consumer consumption behind them it is no surprise they stuck. Still getting bigger and better every year with advancements in technology and huge teams backing these companies to create the “next big wave.”

First off, there are many positive qualities to videos games, being increasing hand-eye coordination through doing something over and over again; improving communication skills since many games require you to communicate with your teammates in order for your team to have an advantage over the other team who may not be communicating or have poor communication skills. If they truly do make you happy then do not listen to other people who say they are horrible for you; life is all but a pursuit of happiness and if video games bring that, then so be it.

On the other hand, some negative health effects have also been associated with video games, such as insomnia, sleep deprivation and depression, circadian rhythm disorders, anxiety, and aggression, though more accurate and in-depth studies are needed to truly show the validity and the strength of these connections.

Video games can also be linked to addiction, which can have side effects of less physical activity, which can lead to obesity or severe weight gain or loss. But video games in moderation are the best way to combat those negative side effects; try setting limits on the amount of time you spend on electronics in general, not just videos games.

All in all, videos games are a topic of many different opinions, so landing on just one answer can be difficult. Being open to different ideas may help you come to a conclusion.
