In the second week of September, Lakewood High School soccer teams took on Buckeye High School. For the girl’s varsity soccer team coming off of a tough loss against North Olmsted, they were fired up and anxious for another win.
To start the three-goal game, Clair McKay was able to kick the ball right under the top bar of the goal on a free kick. To follow the existing goal, Annette Doren scored after being able to break their defensive line and beat out the goalie.
In the back line of the game, Clare Morrissey makes the crowd go crazy with her abilities to duke out the Buckeye forwards. Even with Morrissey’s defense, Buckeye was able to tie the game 2-2.
Senior Captain Mallory Zavatchen fouled in the box after a sprint up the field. With the game tied 2-2 in the last six minutes, Zavatchen was given a penalty kick for the chance to win the game. With the crowd going crazy, Zavatchen’s scores helped win the game for the lady Rangers. This leads the girl’s team to a 6-2 and 3-2 for the conference.
The boy’s soccer team also took on Buckeye in the second week of September. With not as much luck as the girls, the boys come out short with a 1-0 loss. With a tough fight and grit, Senior captain Eli LaDue set the motion of the game for his team putting up the most upward effort.
This took the boy’s season to 2-4-2 and 1-0 for the conference.
