Smoking in Public Parks Potential Ban

Samantha Facaros, Lakewood News Reporter

It is no secret that vapes and e-cigarettes have become very popularized over the past five years with the younger generations. Lakewood is taking the initiative to ban smoking such as cigarettes and e-cigarettes for public health in parks.

With the use of vapes and cigarettes on the rise, it caught the attention of other people with the use of them in public areas such as parks. Not only can smoking and vaping cause problems with your own health, but secondhand smoke can also affect other people’s health such as causing bronchitis and asthma. Many parents of children at Lakewood Park were complaining that not only can it affect their health but it can also set a bad example to the children at the park. Many other cities are taking initiative and banning smoking in parks and it has been said that Lakewood does not want to be the last to take action on this controversial topic.

The City Council wants to assure safety in public parks for the health and well-being of the citizens of Lakewood and banning public smoking will be the first step of action!
