On Friday, Nov. 11, the Lakewood Rangers Junior Varsity and Varsity girls’ basketball team participated in a preseason scrimmage against Saint Josephs’s Academy. This scrimmage, being preseason, did not count for the girl’s record, but did provide them with additional practice before counted games. Competitions such as this are a great way to better prepare for conference games and the Lakewood girls most definitely used this to their advantage.

When asked about the team’s performance, senior post player Aya McAuliffe shared “I think we played well. There were some tough moments, but in the end, it’s not about the score, but rather about the work you put out onto the floor.” This positive attitude will most definitely aid the Rangers in their upcoming season.

Another senior player, Jacquie Hudak, shared that “Friday was a great chance to play the historically successful program: St Joseph’s Academy. The Lakewood girls rallied in the first half ultimately beating them with a score of 14-12. However, after unfortunate injuries, our team began to fall. Our starting point guard, Sydney Hampton, injured her knee after receiving contact from two St. Joseph’s players. After this, the remaining quarters were much more difficult. Regardless, in the end, it was a good competition.” This is yet another positive outlook on the scrimmage.

Though the injuries were less than ideal, the Lakewood Rangers will most definitely benefit from the competition. The Saint Joseph’s scrimmage was the last of the girl’s preseason, meaning it is now time for conference games to begin. Make sure you wish your Rangers good luck!
