French Club

French+Club

French Club at Lakewood High School is a club for French students in levels 1-5, and it is used to expand French students’ knowledge of French culture, literature, history, and art through various activities, French holidays, singing songs, acting in plays, and speaking exclusively in French. This club is run by French teacher Madame Braquet.

The French Club typically meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays; there is usually one meeting a month on one of these days. The French Club has had three meetings so far this year on Tuesday, Sept. 20th, Thursday, Oct. 27th, and  Wednesday, Nov. 16th. The next meeting of 2022 will be on Thursday, Dec. 15th. There are many more meetings after Christmas break, but dates may change.

A note for beginners looking to join is that, for French Club, Madame encourages speaking only French. Beginners may only know Franglais, so they typically listen more during meetings than speak since they are still only learning.

Every club meeting has a theme to it. A few examples are having fake wine and cheese and watching a French movie, another is Valentine’s Day beignets. They not only just have meetings, but they also volunteered in the Homecoming Parade, and they do outdoor activities as well.

French Club is a great way for students to meet other French students, and gain a little more knowledge on the overall aspects of France, not just the language. Madame provides a really fun environment, and it could be a really good end to a school day.
