Lakewood Swimming and Diving Meet vs Normandy

Lakewood+Swimming+and+Diving+Meet+vs+Normandy

Your Lakewood Rangers Swimming and Diving team took on the Normandy Invaders in a competitive meet on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The meet took place at 6 p.m. at the Lakewood “Fishbowl”, which is what the swim team and divers enjoy to call it. The meet was very close and extremely competitive. Normandy had good mid distance and long distance swimmers, but the Lakewood girls team defeated all the odds and came out on top.  Unfortunately, the boys team did not come out on top but it was a close race in every category.

Some highlight swimmers and divers were Charlotte Beno, Ava Watts, Piper McElfish, Lydianna Trudel, and Maddy Sorge. Beno has been swimming for a while now and is unfazed by the harsh pressure and is a great example to the other swimmers on the team. Charlotte came out on top with two wins. One of her wins was in the 500. Her fellow swimmate, Clare Morrissey commented, “Charlotte is a very fast swimmer and it takes a lot of endurance so it was pretty cool watching her as this was my first meet ever.” Secondly, sophomores Ava Watts and Piper McElfish showed great strides in the water and are also great leaders at such a young age. Ava Watts also earned two wins. Lastly, our senior divers Lydianna Trudel and Maddy Sorge had a pretty successful night as they took first and second place. Lydianna Trudel, a returning diver, earned first place. Morrissey added on to Lydianna’s success by saying, “She is such a talented diver with really good technique. It takes a lot to be a good diver.” First year diver Maddy Sorge came out unstoppable by taking second place. This is extremely rewarding because to be able to compete, you need ten dives. Maddy jumped into diving this year with lots of excitement and high hopes. It is truly paying off.

The swimming and diving team has many more meets that you can come and support. “Swimming is a pretty exciting sport when you watch it, you just have to really get into it and enjoy it,” says Clare Morrissey. This Saturday, Dec. 3, they have a meet at home! Morrissey and her other swimmates say, “Pack the fishbowl!”
