Lakewood High Girls Track and Field

Lakewood High track and field’s outdoor season is here! Lakewood High’s girls track and field team has been preparing for the upcoming week of meets. Their first meet against Saint Joseph Academy is a “scrimmage” and later in the week, Rocky River High School.

The track team has an abundance of girls that decided to join this season with a high number of 90 runners. With incoming freshmen and new runners, the track coaches are ecstatic about talent being brought to the track. To put their best efforts against Saint Joe’s and Rocky River, the track coaches had time trials where they would have each girl run a 600-meter run to see what event they could excel at.  Along with a time trial, the girls were tested to see their strengths in the high jump and long jump.

To prepare the runners, the Girls Track team has been running “flying 30s” where they run multiple timed 30 meters with the goal to get a faster time each trial. Another drill used was a 4×100-meter drill where the girls had to imitate a race and run four 100 meters.

Aniya Symons, an indoor state qualifier states,  “I am so excited for our upcoming season, I run the two hundred meter dash, and I am excited to see all our times drop and we prepare for conference and districts, etc.” The Girls Track team hopes to start the season with a bang to hopefully carry out the same “energy” for the rest of the season to hopefully advance to bigger meets.
