Early Childhood Education Interview

Lakewood High School

One of the many West Shore programs Lakewood High School offers is Early Childhood Education. In this class, juniors and seniors learn how children grow and how they develop social-emotional, physical, and intellectual development. They learn about classroom management and how they can incorporate it in the classroom setting. Students get to work with kids from daycares and elementary schools. This class is a great opportunity for anyone who is looking to pursue a career in teaching or just working with children in general.

The Lakewood Times interviewed Senior Libby Galarza on her thoughts about the program.

Why did you choose this program to join?

¨I chose to join the program because I really enjoy working with kids. I also joined because I heard that the program got to visit elementary schools and help kids there. You also get to work with all kinds of kids and it’s a great experience. ¨

What is your favorite part about the program?

¨My favorite part is being able to work one-on-one with students. I also really like being able to see how teachers manage their classrooms. I think that it really helps me learn and see how I can incorporate it in my teaching.¨

Do you have any advice for the underclassmen that are interested in the program?

¨I think they should make sure they look into all of their options and make sure this is the class they want to take. Also, they can always shadow the class and see how they like and if they are interested.¨

Do you encourage underclassmen to take this class?

¨Yes, because I think it’s great for those who like teaching and working with kids.  Also, I think it’s just a great experience to have.¨
