Your Lakewood Track and Field team is finished with their regular season and has been competing in their end of season OHSAA competition for the past two or so weeks. This week, on Tuesday, May 9, various varsity athletes, on either the track or field team, will compete at Rocky River High School in the preliminaries. For any of our athletes to move on, they have to receive high marks at the preliminary as it is single elimination from this point on in the season. In the preliminaries, only the top eight athletes in each event will move forward in the competition.

Only a few varsity athletes are invited to compete in such an event, therefore it’s important we give them all our support. Senior Maddie Kratz shared, “I’m really excited to compete. This is something we’ve been working toward all season and there are no more guarantees which means we have to work hard to stay in the competition.”

Another senior runner, Mallory Zavatchen, shared, “I’m so proud of how far we all have come so far and I’m really hoping we continue doing as well as we have been! It’s really been a great senior season!” This attitude is consistent with many of the other rangers competing in the preliminary meet with hopes of moving forward all the way to the final destination: states. As our Lakewood Track and Field team continues to press on in their season, make sure to give cheer them on and potentially attend their upcoming meets!
