It’s Halloween at Lakewood High School! As the chill of autumn creeps in, turning the leaves from green to red, orange, and yellow, the excitement for Halloween builds, igniting our creativity. From spine-chilling monsters to animals and whimsical movie characters, students from Lakewood High School are showing their enthusiasm for the holiday. This Halloween 2024, the upperclassmen displayed the most spooky spirit and creativity in their costumes, making Halloween not just a celebration but a cherished tradition that unites us all.
Junior boys Gavin Buildt, Sam Hoy, Nick Hart, and Jacob Tannous committed to their costumes this Halloween weekend. Tannous dressed as the Hulk, with his dedication clear in his full green body paint and tank top that mimicked the superhero’s signature look. Hart brought a nautical vibe as a sailor in a red shirt and classic sailor hat. Hoy rocks a jacket that appears to be from the famous movie series Top Gun, while Buildt opted for a country theme, complete with a leather jacket and cowboy hat that gave a rugged edge to their lineup.
Their enthusiasm was contagious as they posed for photos, embodying the spirit of friendship Halloween brings. “We just wanted to have fun and go all out this year,” the boys agreed. Together, they created a memorable presence at the Halloween celebration, showcasing their creativity and strong friendship.
This Halloween is particularly special for seniors Luella Darr and Maggie Barmann, as it marks their last in high school. Long-time best friends, they’ve shared all four years at Lakewood High, creating countless memories. In their joint costume, they portrayed cheerleading best friends from Euphoria with Darr as Maddy Perez and Barmann as Cassie Howard, capturing their characters with stylish outfits and flawless makeup.
“We have been friends since our freshman year,” Barmann said. “We wanted to do a blond and brunette costume, but we promise we’ll never fight like Maddy and Cassie!” Their playful banter reflects a bond built on support and laughter. “It was our last Halloween—we needed to make it unforgettable, so we did it together,” Darr said. As they posed for pictures, their smiles radiated joy and nostalgia, celebrating Halloween and an everlasting bond.
For junior girls and long-time friends, Chloe Parkison and Piper Polen, this Halloween is just like any other—always fun. This year, animal costumes were trending, particularly popular at Lakewood High. “Chloe was a cheetah with a few other girls too,” said Polen, who dressed as Goldilocks. “We dress up and take photos together every year.” Parkison agreed, adding, “Every year, we try to top our previous costumes, and this year was no different!”
The atmosphere was lively, with everyone posing for pictures and showcasing their creativity. For Parkison and Polen, Halloween is more than just a celebration—it’s a reminder of the joy of friendship and the magic of childhood traditions that bring them together.
Halloween 2024 was a celebration of creativity, camaraderie, and tradition. From the impressive costumes of upperclassmen like Buildt, Hoy, Hart, and Tannous to the heartfelt portrayals of Darr and Barmann, and the playful spirit of Parkison and Polen, each group contributed to a festive atmosphere that brought the community together. As students posed for photos and shared laughter, it was clear that this holiday is more than just costumes and candy; it’s a celebration of friendship and the memories that shape their high school experience. As the festivities wrapped up, excitement lingered for future Halloweens, with the bonds formed and memories made this year resonating long after the last trick-or-treaters had gone home.
