On January 4th, the Lakewood Rangers played their eighth conference game of the season, securing a win against Brooklyn High School. With a fantastic score of 5-1, these players showcased their skill and determination, keeping a firm grasp on their undefeated title. With their strong teamwork, the Rangers outplayed their opponents and carried out an outstanding performance.
This night was especially memorable since it was Alumni Night. In addition to the exciting matchup, the evening offered extra entertainment. Before the match began, there was a reception for the former players as well as an intrasquad alumni game afterward.
It was a perfect opportunity for former players to connect with the team they once played for. They witnessed how the hockey program has evolved throughout the years, and their presence was a delight that fueled the team with pride and gave them more support for a great win.
With a large and enthusiastic crowd, fans were cheering passionately for the Rangers throughout the entire match. The roar of the crowd could be heard after every goal.
These added fans heightened pressure on the players during this special game. However, this pressure also encouraged the athletes, showing them that the fans believed in them. Samuel Nemrava, a freshman on the team, felt encouraged by all this support.
“I was very confident,” Nemrava said, reflecting on his performance. “I wouldn’t have changed the way I played.”
The crowd fueled the team’s drive to succeed and motivated the players to bring their A-game. The community spirit highlighted the strong bond between the team and their dedicated supporters.
The Rangers strived for this win, moving their skates along the ice, chasing other players, stealing the puck, and making incredible shots. They put in all their effort to beat Brooklyn.
This match was a breeze from the start; the Rangers gained point by point until they earned a 5-0 lead. Goalie Ryan Sterling kept the puck out of the net with remarkable saves, though one did slip through during the third period. Despite the setback, the Rangers ran away with this game, securing a 4-point lead over their rivals.
“We definitely earned this win,” Nemrava said, showing that the effort behind the victory is far greater than it appears from watching in the stands.
This win extended the Rangers’ undefeated streak.
“We’re 8-0 right now and hope to keep that up,” Junior Freddie Showers said, embracing the significant achievement represented by their win streak.
Currently in his fourth year of coaching, Assistant Coach Tim McDonnell dedicated himself to improving his players and pushing them to achieve their full potential. His efforts have paid off this season with the team’s impressive results.
“Practice, practice, practice,” is a standard quote you’ll hear Coach McDonnel say, emphasizing the importance of this action and helping their execution in-game.
The players in this game put in a lot of effort to maintain their impressive score. Along with practices, they devote ample time to the sport, attending workouts and spending extra time on the ice to sharpen their skills.
Both Showers and Nemrava believed their skills had significantly improved this year, thanks to their hard work in the sport.
As an assistant coach, McDonnell values respect. “Respect yourself, respect other players, respect the game,” he said, showing that he not only believes in the physical aspects of hockey, but also the mental.
They can brush off any mistakes quickly, focusing on doing better in the next play.
As demanding as this sport may be, making it an enjoyable experience is essential. Not only do coaches have to put in the effort to make it fun, but so do the players.
“Everybody is welcoming, and it’s just fun to play,” Showers said.
The Rangers hockey games are fun to attend, and their impeccable 8-0 record proves their hard work. However, it’s also important to remember the background and dedication these players put in for their victories. These athletes spend countless hours training. They practice their skills and work as a team to reach their goals.
There’s perseverance and teamwork behind each powerful shot, pass, and save. The Rangers’ success is accomplished through the effort and passion they bring to each game.
