On March 6th, LHS physics students participated in the 23rd annual Cardboard Boat Regatta. While making a boat out of cardboard may seem impossible, some students demonstrated that it was anything but. The event is held to entertain parents, teachers, and peers alike and have physics students demonstrate their understanding of the physics concepts they have learned, from Archimedes’ principle to buoyancy. Various restrictions govern the construction of these boats, such as only being allowed to use cardboard and tape and only two layers of said cardboard. Some groups may have been more successful than others, but across the board, everyone had fun. Maybe their fun came from winning their heat, or maybe their fun came from having a nice dip in the pool.
