Lakewood football delivered an outstanding performance Friday night, dominating Westlake 45-6 on senior night. The Rangers have been impressive in recent games, continuing to run up the score. Senior Kavontah Swain had an exceptional showing, rushing for approximately 300 yards and serving as an unstoppable force on offense. He was awarded the From the Sidelines “Who Put in the Hustle” award. Congratulations, Kavontah!
Saturday, Sept. 13
On Saturday, Lakewood’s girls’ volleyball team traveled to Oberlin for a triple header. The team went 3-0, defeating Stow-Munroe Falls, Oberlin, and Elyria, demonstrating their strength this season. Senior Audrey McNulty set a new career digs record with her 780th against Stow, earning her the From the Sidelines “Who Put in the Hustle” award. Congratulations, Audrey! Other notable performances included senior Erin Boyer reaching 1,000 career assists and junior Indigo Moncrief serving 14 straight points against Stow. The volleyball team had an impressive weekend, and fans hope they continue to shine and represent Ranger spirit.
Boys and girls cross country had an eventful day Saturday, Sept. 13, when they took a bus to Forest Hills Park in Cleveland Heights to compete at the McDonough Invitational. Known for its massive hill, the invitational saw the boys’ varsity team conquer the course and finish second out of 21 teams. The junior varsity team also placed second out of 18 teams. Junior Porter Gilliland led the varsity team, finishing second in his race. The girls’ team also battled the challenging course, with the varsity team placing eighth out of 18 teams and the junior varsity team finishing sixth out of nine teams. Junior Mady Lee led the girls’ varsity team, finishing eighth in her race. The boys and girls cross country teams will return to action Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Cloverleaf Invitational.
The boys’ soccer team held its ground Saturday against Painesville Riverside at home. Despite a slow start, the boys led 2-1 at halftime. Through tough consistency, they finished on top, 5-1. Scorers included junior Liam Craciun, senior Lawrence Moore, freshman Luis Cruz and sophomore Ilyas Goolagha, who scored twice. Boys’ soccer will be back in action tonight at home against Walsh Jesuit.
