On Friday, Lakewood football traveled to Byers Field in Parma to play Normandy, winning 34-14. From the Sidelines’ “Who Put in the Hustle” award goes to senior Kavontah Swain, who racked up 27 carries, 146 rushing yards, and three touchdowns. Lakewood’s next game is on Thursday, Oct. 9th, against Valley Forge.
Saturday, Oct. 4
Boys’ soccer celebrated Senior Day Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Lutheran West at home. Sophomores Ilyas Goolagha and Yaman Halaq each scored a goal to help the Rangers secure the win. The team will return to action on Wednesday to face Buckeye at home.
Boys’ and girls’ cross country competed Saturday at the Huron Invitational. The meet featured a 5k for both boys and girls, as well as a co-ed 2-mile race. The boys’ 5k team finished sixth out of nine teams, with freshman Andrew Babson leading the Rangers in a personal-best time of 18:09. Babson also received the “Who Put the Hustle in Award.” The girls’ 5k team placed fourth out of eight teams, led by junior Mady Lee, who finished ninth overall. In the 2-mile race, junior Porter Gilliand took first place with a time of 9:54. The boys and girls will return to action Saturday, Oct. 11, for the CWC championship meet at Buckeye High School.
Monday, Oct. 6.
Last night, Lakewood girls’ soccer hosted Normandy for senior night, winning 1-0. Lakewood’s seniors include Alexandra Adamov, Ella Daniels, Erin Gerity, Freya Lewis, Gwen Hongosh, Htoo K. Wah, Nora Lipka, Ruby Fraunfelder and Tessa Carlin. The Sidelines’ “Who Put in the Hustle” award went to senior Ruby Fraunfelder for an outstanding defensive game, an incredible performance on offense in the second half and hitting her signature celebration dance. Lakewood’s girls’ soccer team plays next at Buckeye on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
