On Mar. 15, Senior Charieon Doxley traveled to Boston for the New Balance Indoor National Track & Field meet to compete in the 60-meter hurdles. There were 184 other girls from all over the nation that Doxley was competing against in the 60-meter hurdles at the meet. Unfortunately, Doxley did not meet the qualification standard to continue. Regardless, she has one more season of outdoor track left in her high school career and has great plans for it.
Doxley’s track career began when she was in middle school. She has been doing track and field for six years, two years in middle school and four in high school. She also participated in the Running Rangers program in elementary school. Along with track, she played volleyball through middle school and into her freshman year of high school.
“I’ve been running with Charieon since middle school and she’s your perfect teammate,” senior Mae Mohar said.
“If you look at her progress from her freshman year to her senior year, you’ll see she didn’t start out as this phenom that you can see going to college and competing at Division 1 level,” Coach Toole said.
It wasn’t until her sophomore year of high school that she decided track and field was something she loved to do and wanted to pursue. During Doxley’s sophomore year, she progressed significantly as she figured out which events she excelled most in. As a result, she got to attend the Adidas Nationals with a few of her teammates, where they ran the 4x200m relay for the first time.

“During my sophomore season, I found a love for the events I was doing and this was my peak in learning how to hurdle, which is my main event,” Charieon Doxley said.
“She fell in love with track,” Toole said. “She worked hard, and we spent a couple of seasons figuring out her strongest events, and she worked hard at hurdles.”
From her sophomore year on, Doxley has broken multiple school records for indoor and outdoor track. This past season of indoor track alone, she broke the 300m, 60m Hurdles, and Long Jump indoor records.
“Char had an amazing indoor season,” Toole said.
Doxley has had an impressive high school career in indoor track overall. She is a four-year Indoor Track and Field State Qualifier, and a three-year Indoor Track and Field State Qualifier in the 60m Hurdles. She has also competed at the Indoor State Track and Field Meet on the 4×200 and 4×400 m relays. Doxley holds seven Indoor Track and Field School Records and nine Indoor Track and Field Class Records in total. She was also the Great Lakes Conference Champion for the 100-meter hurdles, and the OATCCC Division 1 Indoor Long Jump State Runner-up.
Doxley also competed in her first Pentathlon in Feb. of 2025. She scored 3,001 points across the five events, including High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, 60-meter Hurdles, and the 800-meter run. As a result, she was ranked 1st in the state of Ohio and 19th in the nation.
“The best athlete, hands down, the best female athlete in Lakewood High School,” Toole said.
It is clear that Doxley excels on the track, but it doesn’t just end there. She succeeds in the classroom as well. She keeps a high grade point average throughout the season. In terms of being a student-athlete, she takes both parts seriously.

Doxley contributes excellent athleticism and a great attitude to the team. She radiates positivity and kindness to her teammates and coaches.
“She’s always stepping up and I really admire her perpetually positive attitude,” Mohar said.
“She’s as kind and genuine as you see, she’s a good leader,” Toole said.
Her teammates and coaches love her, but not as much as she loves them. Her favorite part of the team and coaches is the unconditional love and support she consistently receives from them.
“All my teammates are genuine people who offer emotional support and encouragement and it makes track and field all that more fun even through the hard workouts and rough days,” Doxley said.
As of now, Doxley intends to continue her career in track and field at the collegiate level. Although she is currently unsure of which institute she wishes to attend, she knows that it is something she does not want to give up on.
“I am finishing up going on recruitment tours this month, so I am hoping to have a decision made soon,” Doxley said.
“Yeah, she’s got some good recruiting options,” Toole said. “So, after these visits, she’ll see what school she likes.”
Doxley has a bright future ahead of her regarding her career in track and field, but her high school career isn’t over yet. As the outdoor track and field season begins, Doxley has high intentions for her season, which will be her last one at LHS.
“My number one goal is to break the 300m hurdle record and qualify for states in as many events possible!” Doxley said. “I have goals to make the podium at the D1 OHSAA Track and Field state meet in June at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium for the Long Jump, 100m hurdles, and 300m hurdles.”
Doxley is a great teammate, friend, and scholar-athlete. Although as of now she is undecided about where she would like to continue to pursue her career in Track and Field, there is no doubt that wherever she chooses to go will be lucky to have her. She contributes amazing skills, dedication, and heart into her entire career of Track and Field.
