On Feb. 3rd, Team Rangers For a Cure hosted their 3rd annual Raffle Basket Fundraiser at the boys basketball game against Valley Forge. The team works with Blood Cancer United, formerly The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, under their Student Visionaries of the Year program.

Rangers For a Cure is currently competing against other schools across Northeast Ohio in a seven-week fundraising campaign supporting research and treatment for blood cancers. The team is led by seniors Lydia Koons, Audrey McNulty, and Erin Boyer, alongside team manager Ruby Fraunfelder.
During the fundraiser, the group had several raffle baskets on display form businesses and restaurants such as The Tea Lab, Georgetown, Canes, and more. The group was selling raffle tickets at half a sheet for $10 and a full sheet for $20, accepting both cash and card. The team was setting up during the freshman game and was selling the tickets during both the jv and varsity games.
Customer Josephine Lautzenhiser said, “I’ve gone to all three of the raffle basket fundraisers, and they just get better and better each year. I always get excited when I see a post about the fundraiser, and I love supporting and helping my friends throughout the campaign.”
The winners were announced at the end of the third quarter of the varsity game and continued through the game’s conclusion. The baskets were distributed to the winners, bringing an energetic night to a close in support of a meaningful cause
Senior Visionary Erin Boyer said, “A lot of hard work was put into tonight. We have been working together since June of 2025, getting everything together and making sure that everything would run smoothly…this is something that we all care deeply about, and all of the hard work that we put in is really paying off.”
Development Manager for Blood Cancer United, Savannah Drdek, said, “Rangers For a Cure was started with a single candidate and one team member in 2023. There wasn’t much school involvement or awareness, but this changed … when Luke Burke became a visionary in 2024. He rallied a team of over 20 students who raised over $20,000, and the team has only gotten bigger.”

Today, Rangers For a Cure includes 47 students and has raised more than $85,000 across previous campaigns.
The raffle basket fundraiser showcased the power of student leadership, community, support and school spirit. Thanks to the generosity of local Lakewood businesses and the overwhelming outreach from members of the community made the event possible and helped raise money for blood cancer.
Simple events like these show how coming together can make a real impact and support those who are affected by blood cancer. Rangers For a Cure has an upcoming movie night on February 12th in the Civic Auditorium at Lakewood High School, as well as an Angelo’s dine and donate on the 12th. The team also has an Applebee’s Pancake Fundraiser on March 7th at the Applebee’s in Westgate.
