Birdietown has quickly become a popular spot for families, friend groups, date nights and even grandparents looking for something different to do. With its mini golf course, creative menu and atmosphere, Birdietown stands out as one of the most unique dining spots in Lakewood.
For customer Rina Vainisi, Birdietown first came onto her radar through a friend. “I first heard about Birdietown when my friend Birdie started working there. She was always talking about it, so me and my family went to check it out. We found out it was a really cool place and they also had some pretty fun mini golf,” said Vainisi.
When Vainisi and her family first walked in, they weren’t sure exactly what to expect. Was it an arcade? A restaurant? A golf course? It turns out, it’s a little bit of everything.
“My favorite part is obviously the mini golf. There are two levels to the mini golf course, and they both have their own unique challenges. The way they designed the courses is really unique, it’s something I haven’t really seen before,” said Vainisi.

The 18-hole indoor course isn’t just a small add-on in the corner; it’s built into the heart of the space. According to owner Tim Frazee, the idea of combining a restaurant with mini golf took time to develop.
“That actually took a while for us to figure out. We wanted to do a bar and restaurant with some sort of game inside. We actually visited some other concepts, including some other mini golf concepts in larger cities like Washington, DC, New York City, and we fell in love with the mini golf idea,” said Frazee.
The opportunity to bring that idea to Lakewood came down to location and timing. “We have another business in Lakewood that’s on the third floor of the same building. We love Lakewood as a city, and the opportunity was there because we knew the space existed in that same building,” said Frazee.
The open space gave them the room they needed to think big. “So it kind of fell into our lap, actually. We knew that the other space was available. It’s about 12,000 square feet, which we need a lot of space for the restaurant, with the concept of mini golf,” said Frazee.
The mini golf course is what truly sets Birdietown apart. “Well, it’s got to be the golf. I mean, I don’t know of any other restaurant that is 18 holes of mini golf inside,” said Frazee.
For customers like Vainisi, it’s not just about the golf course, it’s about the vibe. “The atmosphere at BirdieTown is so fun and mature. It’s nice and classy, especially upstairs. Upstairs feels more classy, and I go there with my grandparents. But when you go to the lower level, it’s more fun and young, that’s where I’d go with my sister,” said Vainisi.
The difference between levels was intentional. Frazee explained that Birdietown was designed with adults in mind during certain hours. “We wanted to create a place primarily for adults, 21 and older, after 7 o’clock to just come, have a good time, have a good meal and good drinks, and, you know, escape, or day-to-day life a little bit, and enjoy some mini golf,” said Frazee.
At the same time, during the day and earlier evenings, it’s a place where families and younger groups can come together. The addition of mini golf gives guests something to do beyond just sitting at a table.

And of course, the food still matters. “What keeps me coming back is, honestly, the pickle chips. They have these pickle chips on the menu and they are so delicious. I love them so much,” said Vainisi.
Behind the scenes, a team works to ensure everything runs smoothly. Lakewood High School student Birdie Jozsa works as a host and helps prepare both the restaurant and the golf course before opening each day. As a host, Jozsa is often the first face customers see, setting the tone for their entire visit.
“My position at Birdietown is as a host. A typical shift looks like me coming in about an hour before we open … and prepare the restaurant and the courses for customers. Once we open, I seat people, help servers where they need it, and explain all of the rules to customers so they can have a successful and fun experience,” said Jozsa.
Frazee said creating opportunities for employees has been one of the rewarding outcomes of opening Birdietown. But what stands out the most to Jozsa isn’t just the structure, it’s the people. “My favorite part of working at Birdietown is the atmosphere and the amazing people I work with. Everyone is so welcoming, and it really feels like a great community,” said Jozsa.
At the end of the day, Birdietown isn’t just about mini golf or pickle chips. It’s about creating a space where people of all ages can spend time together. Whether you’re going with grandparents for a classy dinner upstairs, meeting friends for mini golf downstairs or working your first job, Birdietown has become a place that feels like part of the Lakewood community — and that’s what makes it truly special.
