Located at 15602 Detroit Ave., Mishi Lifestyle is more than just a home goods boutique—it is the result of owner Tracy Burnett’s mission for independence. Burnett opened the shop five years ago after her previous company downsized during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A Lakewood native, Burnett loved the idea of how the community supported each other. “I’ve lived in Lakewood for 23 years and prioritized opening my business here because I wanted to support not only myself but my community as well,” Burnett said.
A defining feature of Mishi is its commitment to local vendors and selling custom pieces. Burnett sources from other small businesses in the area rather than corporate chains, showing the uplifting and supporting nature of Lakewood’s small business community.
“Our candle scent, that’s a local candle maker…she works with a lot of small businesses, a lot of women-owned businesses,” said employee Meghan Hanrahan.
For Burnett, these partnerships are the backbone of Mishi’s operating values. “I’ve found a network of support and friendship that will last beyond Mishi Lifestyle’s lifetime, working with local makers and other independent business owners,” Burnett said.
Hanrahan, also a Lakewood resident, has been working at Mishi for two years after Mishi’s storefront caught her eye while walking through the neighborhood. The shop offers household items, candles, cards, and jewellery, all hand-picked by Burnett.
“You want to come into something and know its quality, and it can be something that can be lived in… but you know that it’s not going to rip or break,” Hanrahan said.
Burnett ensures that all her products are actually functional. The quality customers find in Mishi and its local ties make it an ideal place to shop for any household need.
Kara Barmann, a customer, said, “I was drawn in by the window display and needed a gift for someone. My first purchase was a candle for a friend; it smelled so lovely that I purchased one for my home.”
The boutique’s name is as personal as its inventory. “Mishi is a playful nickname…which is my middle name,” Burrnett said.
The experience at Mishi is made personal, as customers are always greeted by Burnett and her team, who are ready to assist. The shop’s environment and staff helped Mishi Lifestyle be a Best of the West finalist for three consecutive years, from 2023 to 2025.
“Mishi is a woman-owned as well, and there has always been a very helpful person in the store to assist with questions or help with gift ideas,” Barmann said.
Beyond retail, Mishi also offers community events that give local artists a venue to sell their designs. “I love that Mishi not only has curated home goods and unique finds, but they also have vintage pieces and offer design services and host private events,” Barmann said.
As Mishi Lifestyle continues to grow and share its unique finds, it remains committed to bringing thoughtful pieces and meaningful shopping experiences to the Lakewood community. They continue to support other local businesses and artists’ growth as well, representing Lakewood’s continued commitment to small businesses.
