Located at 13703 Madison Avenue, Uncover Vintage is a local clothing boutique offering a wide variety of throwbacks to earlier decades, including jackets, graphic tees and more. Known for its unique atmosphere and expansive inventory, the shop has become a go-to destination for retro fashion.
Founded by Max Quinn, the store opened in May 2020 during the height of the pandemic — a challenging time for retail business. Despite the uncertainty, Uncover Vintage persevered. Originally opened in Lakewood, the business expanded to Cleveland Heights around November 2023 continuing to grow its presence in Northeast Ohio.
At the heart of any successful vintage shop is the ability to make customers feel something. Many people shop vintage to reconnect with the past — whether it’s a memory, a style or a sense of comfort. Uncover Vintage creates that experience by offering pieces that spark nostalgia and help customers feel at home the moment they walk in.

Customer Lyn DuVall shares her love for vintage clothing, “My mother lives in Lakewood, so I like to check out unique shops while I’m here. I really like the variety and how many items relate to my life.”
DuVall also noted her excitement when visiting for the first time, “I was overwhelmed by the options and how they reminded me of previous years. I especially liked the jerseys and coats representing Cleveland sports teams, with old logos and designs you don’t see often anymore.” Her enthusiasm keeps her returning to find more treasures.
The store is known for its one-of-a-kind items, including some specific to the area. For example, they carry vintage Cleveland Browns jackets — something you can only find locally. The racks also feature graphic tees representing colleges, sports teams and pop culture icons from the past decade. It’s a store loved by the community because there’s truly something for everyone.
The store’s uniqueness benefits not only the community but its employees as well. “I like to collect vintage clothing myself. It’s fun to see the different kinds of people who come in and what they gravitate toward—and what keeps bringing them back,” said employee Allison Gray.
Having staff who are passionate about vintage collecting creates a positive environment, with plenty of help available. Gray also shared how the job has helped her grow personally.
“Working in retail can help anyone develop as a person. For me, it’s also been a way to support the vintage community in Cleveland. I sell clothes on my own, and the owner has organized events and opportunities for me to succeed,” Gray said.
One of the joys of small businesses is the personal care owners put into their work. “It’s much more personal to have a boss who is really involved with the business and employees,” Gray added. She expressed appreciation for her owner’s support and how he has helped her grow both as a person and a vintage community member.
Over the past six years, the store has attracted many vintage enthusiasts, continuing to succeed with new arrivals daily. The constant restocking draws customers frequently.

“I’d recommend Uncover Vintage because the store is easy to navigate, and the staff are very friendly. I’ve seen items here I wouldn’t find at a typical chain store,” said customer Lisa Kempton. “The employees are always helpful and willing to share insights,” she added. Kempton appreciates both the merchandise and the welcoming environment, which fosters a community of collectors.
Lakewood’s small business scene is vibrant, and Uncover Vintage is a key part of it. With its steady stream of unique finds and its dedication to preserving fashion from decades past, the shop continues to celebrate vintage style while building a strong sense of community.
For shoppers searching for something distinctive — and maybe a little nostalgic — Uncover Vintage offers a place where old trends feel new again.
