One organization at LHS that can be very beneficial for people skills, teamwork, leadership, and even scheduling is athletics. Being on a Lakewood team teaches lessons on time management and how to work with people that can come in handy in the future with jobs or even family. Having to manage schoolwork, practice and games can all contribute to lessons taught. Participating in a sport for 2 consecutive years even counts as a Physical Education credit so gym would not have to be in your schedule.

There are a plethora of sports offered at LHS for both boys and girls separately and together. From tennis to cross country to baseball to even bowling, there is something for everyone. There are even sports such as football that do not make cuts, so you’re guaranteed to get this experience!

To become involved in a sport, there are links on the Lakewood High School website that lead you to coaches that can help introduce you to a sport you may end up loving. A full list of sports is on the Lakewood website as well so you can see the option that will fit you best. You could even play multiple sports if your interests are played during different seasons. There are different time requirements for each sport so even if you aren’t ready to take on a huge burden, there are some athletics that do not require a life-changing amount of time.

Who knows, you may even end up breaking a record for the school and finding a passion for a sport!
