Wednesday, Oct. 8
The boys’ soccer team defeated Buckeye High School 6-0 last Wednesday. Four players scored in the match: junior Lian Kim and freshman Dante Warren each had one goal, while sophomore Yaman Halaq and senior Lawrence Moore each scored twice. Moore also displayed a lot of effort and was awarded the “Who Put the Hustle in Award.” The team will return to action Wednesday, Oct. 22, against North Olmsted at home.
Thursday, Oct. 9
Lakewood football took on Valley Forge at Byers Field on Thursday, losing the game 56-34. Lakewood led 28-21 at halftime but lost the lead and the game. From The Sidelines’ “Who Put in the Hustle” award goes to freshman Lukas Stoll for his touchdowns and team leadership. Lakewood football will play next at home on Friday, Oct. 17, for senior night.
Saturday, Oct. 10
The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in the Cleveland West Conference Championship over the long weekend at Buckeye High School. The varsity boys team finished first out of eight teams, earning their first conference title since 2018. The junior varsity boys team also took first with a near-perfect score of 18 points. Freshman William Costello led the JV boys, winning the race and earning the “Who Put the Hustle in Award.” The girls’ cross country teams also had a strong showing in Medina. The varsity girls placed fourth out of seven teams, while the JV girls finished third out of four teams. Junior Mady Lee led the varsity girls, finishing in 11th place and earning all-conference second team honors. The boys’ and girls’ varsity teams will return to action Saturday, Oct. 17, at the district championships at LCCC.
Lakewood girls’ soccer lost to Olmsted Falls 10-0 Saturday. The team faced numerous injuries throughout the game, making it challenging to keep up with its competition. Junior Fallon Popovich had a notable performance, stepping up to give her all. Girls’ soccer will be back in action Wednesday at home against Hoover.
