    Lakewood’s New Head Football Coach

    Lakewoods New Head Football Coach

After last football season, with our staggering record of 1 win, maybe it was time for a change-up in the Lakewood High School football team coaching staff. This seems to be the case, with the Lakewood board recently approved the hiring of Twinsburg teacher Thomas Thome, who will joining the LHS social studies teachers next year, as well as being the new head coach of the football team, replace the current head coach, Tom Hannan.

Thome has over 10 years of experience as a coach and teacher, but stresses that he is a teacher first, coach second. Thome’s focus is to make well-rounded student athletes, saying “As a team, we want to help create well-rounded student athletes that are prepared for success in life not just the football field…Academic excellence, community involvement and personal growth are just as important to the success of any athletic team.” In teaching, Thome will keep up the social studies departments strong pull towards electives, as well as expanding the government class to juniors and adding more for seniors, expanding the class that is required to graduate.

Athletic Director at the high school, Sean Jackson, said “Coach Thome possesses a great understanding of the game, and more importantly has the positive, energetic personality that our student-athletes will respond to. Those attributes coupled with the fact that he’s eager to move and become a visible part of the Lakewood community, and makes his Social Studies classroom his first priority were what really made him the unanimous favorite of the selection committee members.”
