March Madness is back! The annual college basketball tournament that leaves one team standing in the end contains 64 teams that will do anything to win. The college tournament started in the year 1939, it saw the University of Oregon defeat The Ohio State University 46-33 to win the championship.

Originally the tournament contained only the top 8 teams in all of college basketball. It has since expanded to the, “top’ 64 teams in college. The term, “March Madness” has been derived from the unpredictable events that seem to occur every year. Wether it be teams getting snubbed from the tournament and not allowed to play, or the upsets that ensue once the bracket-play gets underway. Thousands of people try to predict the outcome of every game each year in hopes of winning ESPN’s tournament challenge.

The grand prize people compete for is a trip for two to the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. The invitational is basically a preseason tournament that brings some of the top teams in college basketball to play and showcase their talent that teams will have to face in the upcoming season. In 2015 a 12 year-old boy who placed within the top 1% of the thousands of people who played, was not legally allowed to claim his prize for tying for first place with an astonishing 91% correct bracket. Instead he was offered an unknown prize. Regardless of the outcome, it goes to show that anybody can win with some luck. At the top of the article is a link to ESPN where you can fill out a bracket and go head to head with friends, or compete against experts and the nation in hopes of winning big.
