Who Will The Browns Take at #1

With the NFL draft approaching, the Cleveland Browns have a tough decision to make– which player should go #1? The Browns, who own the first overall pick as a result of their 0-16 season, have many options at #1.

Lets start with the quarterbacks. For a franchise like the Browns, who have been starved for a franchise quarterback, taking a Quarterback at one seems like the obvious decision. They have the option to choose from every player in this draft, and get “their” guy. Part of the problems the Browns have been having in past years, is that the QB they liked, was taken earlier in the draft. As a result of this, the Browns have had to take QB’s like DeShone Kizer, Cody Kessler, Johnny Manziel, Brandon Weeden, etc… They now have the legitimate choice to take who they want, not who they are left with.

The most popular QB’s who are being speculated to go #1 are USC’s Sam Darnold, Wyoming’s Josh Allen, Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield, and UCLA’s Josh Rosen. Allen is considered to be the prospect with the most upside, with people considering his arm talent to be outstanding, and his competitive drive to be great as well. His critics cite his lack of college accuracy, and his small school status as a concern. Darnold has an outstanding college record, bringing USC back into the discussion as one of the top college teams. But critics cite his turnovers as a potential harbinger to what his career will be like. Mayfield has all the tools you want in a competitor, but he’s considered short for a QB, standing only at 6 feet tall.

After the Browns traded for Tyrod Taylor last week, certain people have been calling for them to take Saquon Barkley at #1, the impeccable running back from Penn State, and then taking a QB at 4. However, I believe which ever quarterback they truly like the most, they should take with the first pick, as you never know what other team might also want to draft him. Waiting till the 4th pick to get their QB may be too long.
