    Teen Mental Illness Forum


    LakewoodAlive, a non-profit organization based in Lakewood, focused on the betterment of the community, is hosting a a free forum for teens, parents, and other members of the community to discuss mental illness.

    “Depression, Anxiety, and Teens- Who Cares?” will offer insightful advice and talk about a topic often disregarded by the public. This community discussion will occur from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, in the LHS Cafeteria at Lakewood High School (14100 Franklin Boulevard). It is open to the public and free to attend.

    A member of panelists, overseen by Dr. Molly M. Wimbiscus, MD, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at The Cleveland Clinic, will discuss the warning signs of depression and anxiety, coping strategies, and resources within the Lakewood Community.

    Other experts inputting their advice and offering resources onto teens with mental illnesses will include:

    • Dr. Jason V. Lambrese, MD, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, Cleveland Clinic
    • Roberta Marcinek, Lead Guidance Counselor, Lakewood High School
    • Colleen McNamara, Family to Family Manager, City of Lakewood- Division of Youth
    • Courtney Noster, M.Ed, LPCC,  Healthy Lakewood Foundation

    The last half hour of this forum will be allotted for questions from the audience for the panel members. This community discussion will encourage parents to support their teens.

    Approximately 1 in 5 teens experiences some form of mental illness, but this issue still goes unaddressed. “Depression, Anxiety, and Teens- Who Cares?” will provide a platform for teens, parents, psychiatrists, and the citizens of Lakewood to discuss and learn about how depression and anxiety effect teens, and how to cope with its symptoms.

    LHS Senior, Charlie Prindle, says he thinks this forum will be beneficial to lots of Lakewood Teens. “I know that this issue of mental illness in teenagers is ignored, and I hope this can work to resolve it.”
