Is There Such Thing as Male White Privilege

Since the dawn of America’s history, white males have been in power. One can take a look the colonizers that built our nation, our government leaders, our CEOs, they are predominantly white males. Are women and minorities underrepresented? Or is there a disadvantage due to the privilege white males posses?

What exactly does white privileged mean? Well some examples according to the National Seed would be, that white males are the always the majority , “I can, if I wish, arrange to be in the company of  people of my own race most of the time,” and “ I can be reasonably sure that my neighbors in such a location will be neutral or pleasant to me,” and “if a traffic cop pulls me over or if the IRS audits my tax return, I can be sure I haven’t been singled out because of my race.”

The point is white males can do basic tasks without thinking twice, like being in the airport, or going into a store without security or owners eyeing them down the entire time, or not being constantly hollered at while walking down the street.

Aside from day-to-day activities, there are countless cases, such as Brock Turner, who have had outcomes that were less harsh than they should have been. Is that because he is a white male?

A local teenage woman, Angie Amato said, “So I personally believe that white male privilege exists when it comes to opportunities and jobs that someone who is female and or a person of color, not all white men are privileged when it comes to the topic of wealth, not all white men have a lot of money.”

As one can see, there are still white males who struggle, whether it be economically or the environment in which they live. No one lives a perfect life; however the question still stands, does white privileged exists? We may never know exactly, but there sure is evidence that supports the statement.
