    The Grammys 2019

The 61st Grammy Awards took place on Sunday, February 10th of this year. Last year, the Grammys were criticized for mostly not featuring female artists from the top awards categories. This year, all eyes were on the nominations, seeing if what had happened last year would be the case this time as well. But this year, #GrammysSoMale was not an issue.

The biggest winner of the night was Kacey Musgraves, who walked away with 4 Grammys. She won the awards of “Country Album of the Year” (Golden Hour), “Best Country Song Performance” (Butterflies), “Best Country Song” (Space Cowboy), and “Album of the Year” (Golden Hour). To win the coveted honor of “Album of the Year”, Musgraves had to win over some big names in music such as Drake, Cardi B, Post Malone, Brandi Carlile, H.E.R., Janelle Monae, as well the artists who made the Black Panther soundtrack. Some of the other big winners of the night were Lady Gaga with three Grammys, and Childish Gambino with three Grammys. Childish Gambino had a historic win for his song “This is America”, because it became the first time ever that a hip-hop-artist claimed the title of “Song of the Year”.

This year’s Grammys offered an abundance of performances from artists from all different genres. As Lakewood High School student, Annika Mintzlaff, said, “I really enjoyed the performances this year. My favorite performance would have to be Cardi B singing ‘Money’.” Even if you were not able to tune in to the Grammys this year, it is always a fun event to plan to watch next year.
