Lakewood has been home to a few witch and/or ghost shops including Cleveland Curiosities, New Moon, and the most recent Cleveland Area Paranormal Society, or CAPS.

CAPS is owned by best friends Marleigh McVeigh and Jessica Oktober. The pair started off with giving ghost tours of Cleveland with groups of friends. That turned into selling tickets on Facebook, which would quickly sell out. Eventually, they decided to open up a shop where they sell ghost hunting equipment, tarot cards, and other interesting items. The shop was officially opened on February 1, 2019.

One of their most notable tours was when they decided to investigate Cleveland’s abandoned, and supposedly haunted, House of Wills. The House of Wills was turned from a social club to a funeral home, and became the largest black-owned funeral business in the state. The Wills family sold the property in 2005, which in 2010 was then bought by Eric Freeman, a local Satanist. Freeman’s plans for the property include fixing it back up to its former glory.

CAPS also hosts free community events such as community breakfasts and book club meetings. They’re open to private party planning, as well as tarot card readings, ghost hunts and tours, and murder mystery dinners.

“It’s cool that Lakewood is so open to these kinds of shops,” said Hana Johnson, “you can’t get that everywhere.”

Tickets for their tours can be bought here. They can range in price, but stay around 25 dollars each. The store is located at 2009 Carabel Avenue with store hours noon to nine p.m. everyday, besides Monday.
