    Amazon is the world’s largest online retailer. Amazon has changed so many lives and so many businesses. Amazon was founded in 1994; Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie opened an online bookstore in Seattle because of the city’s reputation as a tech hub. Jeff put ten thousand dollars on the company. In 1997, Amazon goes public with the world and for every share it cost $1.94. In the same year, Amazon opened a second distribution center in New Castle, Delaware, in order to serve customers on the East Coast. The 200,000-square foot facility is the beginning of a network that will eventually touch almost every state in the nation.

    After one year, Amazon added music to their inventory. In 2001, Time Magazine named Bezos Person of the Year. At age 35, Bezos is the fourth-youngest recipient of the distinction. After that year, Amazon started selling clothes. Amazon partnership with several major clothing companies to offer 400 apparel brands in its online store. Amazon has now moved far beyond books, with offerings that include electronics, toys, kitchen ware, and even magazine subscriptions.

    In 2004, Amazon was introduced in China. Amazon paid $75 million to buy Joyo, the largest online seller of books and electronics in the growing Chinese market. Bezos introduced Amazon prime to the world, $79-a-year loyalty program that includes free two-day shipping on any order. Now, with more than 100 million members. In 2015, Amazon opens its first physical bookstore in Seattle. Senior Will Adams said, “I do all my shopping online and my number one app I use to buy things is Amazon. Amazon is just smooth and it is can easy to find things.”
