In Oklahoma a mother is fearing for her children’s lives. There was a police shootout that left three of her four children with injuries.

Mother Olivia Hill and her four children were in a pickup truck which was driven by William Devaughn Smith who police pegged as a suspect in an April 11 armed robbery of Pizza Hut.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) stated that the incident started after Smith allegedly hit a police officer with his vehicle while trying to get away. There was a second officer who was nearly hit by the truck and fired shots in fear of his safety.

The OSBI stated that Smith is in custody, two officers had minor injuries and the three innocent children were hospitalized.

“My 4-year-old daughter was shot in the head, and she has a bullet in her brain, and my 5-year-old has a skull fracture,” the mother said “My 1-year-old baby has gunshot wounds on her face.”

They are unable to confirm whether the officers knew the kids were inside the truck when they started shooting.

Police say that Smith was shot in the incident and was treated and released to police custody from a Paris hospital.

The police also state that Smith allegedly entered the back entrance of the restaurant, pressed an object to an employee’s back and demanded money. Smith has not been formally charged yet in the shooting or the robbery of Pizza Hut.

Smith is in custody and faces a first degree felony charge of aggravated robbery.

Senior Alesondra McKissick said “I think that it’s crazy. Little kids should not be in that situation. Police need to be more aware of what could happen if they do open fire.”
