    The LRMB Beats COVID

    The+LRMB+Beats+COVID

It’s no surprise that COVID has effected every aspect of life, and extracurriculars are no exception. Recently, the Lakewood Ranger Marching Band has performed their first Friday without the football team, a rather strange occurrence as most are used to seeing the band perform during halftime. To get an inside idea on why this happened and what the idea behind it is I reached out to our Director of bands, Mr. Steinbrunner.

Q: What was the idea behind continuing Friday night performances despite the football team being away from home?

Mr. Steinbrunner: “I know there are a lot of people in the community who want to see the band and I know there are family members and friends who won’t get to come to the games to see the marching band. By doing this (performing during away games at our home stadium) they have the chance to still perform for the community and for people to get a chance to come out and see the band.”

In addition to talking with Mr. Steinbrunner, I also had a chance to speak with Senior percussionist Aidan Peck who plays snare in the drumline.

Q: In what ways do you COVID has affected the band the most?

Aidan Peck: “It doesn’t feel as social, we feel more behind than usual and Friday nights aren’t as much fun.”

Q: Do you think there any positives to the this season?

Aidan Peck: “We get to see how we do in the face of adversity. Its definitely different from previous years.”

Despite the hardships facing the LRMB this season they have continued pumping out great sound as they have in the past. Its no surprise that they, like many other extracurriculars have suffered from COVID however it sounds like they haven’t missed a beat! This Saturday, 09/19/20, they have a community performance at the stadium which will be a replacement for their yearly Lakewood park performance. So come out and enjoy the band one of these Fridays or this Saturday and see their hard work in play!
