The National Hockey League 16-17 season is quickly coming to an end, that means fighting for a spot to be in the Stanley Cup playoffs. One team that has really been proving themselves have been the Toronto Maple Leafs. Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander are some rookies that are really proving themselves on this team.

On March 16th they swept the Tampa Bay Lighting 5-0 in an amazing shutout. This win robbed the Tampa Bay Lighting of their second wild card spot and the Maple Leafs claimed the spot. After the game against the Boston Bruins on March 20th, they gained to more points in the Wildcard.

They are not going to stop once at the top of the wildcard, Coach Mike Babcock has already stated they want to be in the Atlantic Division playoffs. The last time the Toronto Maple Leafs saw the post season was 2012-2013 season, and the last time they saw a Stanley Cup was 1967.

They still have some hard teams they have to win against including a game on Wednesday March 22nd against the Blue Jackets in Columbus. The last time the played in Columbus, the Blue Jackets swept them 5-2, but after the last two wins they have had who knows what could happen. To move up to the first wildcard spot the Leafs will have to gain 13 more points, which means they will have to win the next seven games.

They will be playing against teams like the Washington Capitals who are no.1 in the Metropolitan Division and also teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins who won the Stanley Cup in 2016. Who knows if they can pull it off, Toronto needs a good winning team after the Blue Jays lost to the Indians.
