    The End of Construction

    The+End+of+Construction

All of us here at Lakewood High School have experienced what it is like to be a school under construction. And, unfortunately, everyone here has experienced this for all the years that we have been at this school (although for seniors the knockdown process did not begin until after winter break of their freshman year).

Last year after winter break the C-building and later Cafeteria opened, and this year by the first day of school the library and black box theater were finished. Sadly, many of us were disappointed to learn that the gym was taking longer than expected, and that physical education students are banished to the football field for another semester. Not to mention all the sports teams that have to relocate their practices, or the fact that Homecoming had to be relocated to Harding again this year.

But, at last, it seems all the noise and dust and yellow-clad workers is coming to an end. The gymnasium and weight room is set to be opened in November of this year, less than a month from today. The Winter Formal dance will be held there, and sports that use the gym will no longer have to commute daily.

It has been annoying (to say the least) to have the building that we spend so much time in to be unfinished. I, for one, will always remember having sore throats because of all the construction dust in the Civic auditorium, or melting in my third-floor math class during May of last year when they were putting in the new AC unit. But these building changes had to happen sometime (both in the High School and the Elementary Schools), and if we did not have to go through it someone else would have. And we are all lucky in a way, because we got to live through a big change and see the finished product.
