    Scholarship Opportunities

    As college application time is coming up, there is one concern on everybody’s mind: how can we afford it? Every school can provide financial aid through the FAFSA form, which has already been opened to the public to fill out as of October 1st, but another way you can receive some relief financially is through scholarships. Naviance has a page full of possible scholarship opportunities and some are already accepting applications.

    The Stop the Hate essay and songwriting contest is accepting submissions until February 17 (for 11-12 grade students) and offers up to $20,000 in scholarships. The Activate Your Life scholarship (here is the link:  is due by October 31 and is a quick 3-5 sentence response to one of two possible questions, and gives you $1,000.

    The Actuarial Scholarship is accepting applications until November 1 and has the requirements of a GPA of 3 or above, and an act score of 28 or above (link: Amazon is even offering a scholarship for those who plan to pursue engineering, they are offering up to $40,000 and application are due by Novemeber 1 (link:

    There is even a scholarship opportunity (of $1,500) if you are willing to write an essay about the importance of keeping drinking water clean, you have to answer the prompt: “Describe the meaning of backflow prevention and how we can keep our drinking water safe through cross connection control.  Identify potential hazards commonly found in a typical residential household and discuss actions needed to correct them” (link:
