This is a special time of year for Lakewood High School. When the winter weather rolls around and when the seasonal depression kicks in, the students of LHS have one big thing to look forward to: the Midterms/Finals!

Midterms are coming up, and the most important thing students do at this time is study and review. Now the freshmen get a little lucky this year, for their hands will be held throughout the complicated midterm and final process. But some of us, like the seniors and the sophomores, have fewer experiences taking the midterm. Class of 2022 hasn’t taken a midterm or a final since 2019, and the Class of 2024 hasn’t taken a midterm, since they were remote during freshman year.

Most seniors have their study plans locked in still. Even then, it’s not required to study for these tests, but you’re likely to get a better score if you review your material. Sophomores though, have to take a different approach. The midterms or finals aren’t something they’re used to getting ready for, since usually, their tests for their classes don’t require multiple days of testing.

The freshmen also need to be reminded about the Double F Rule. The Double F Rule includes not only the restriction that, if you fail two quarters, you fail the whole class, but this also means that if you fail one quarter and your midterm/final, you fail the class. Sure, this is a little pressuring, but that’s why these kinds of tests occur only twice, between semesters. The best thing right now to do with your cohorts is to support them through this time.
