There has been a controversial topic circulating the halls and classes of Lakewood High… does ketchup belong on eggs? Students like Mallory Zavatchen and Erin Dippel are adamantly in favor of this breakfast combo, while students like Clare Morrissey and Aya McAuliffe spearhead the anti-ketchup-on-eggs movement. This article will feature a brief debate over this very divided topic with varying perspectives from both sides.

Remarking on a conversation she shared with Mallory Zavatchen in the hallways, Clare Morrissey says, “Mallory argued that ketchup is a perfect sauce for some classic scrambled eggs… she even said that it’s necessary when the eggs are almost gross, like hotel lobby eggs that are plain and yellow and clumpy.”

Her response to this remark is, “Eggs can be prepared in so many other ways to increase their flavor capacity. Try putting on some sriracha, salsa, or even just salt and pepper.”

Mallory and Erin countered this by asking if the anti-ketchup-on-eggs movement has ever even tried this unique breakfast combo, and with a defeated demeanor, Morrissey and McAuliffe reveal that they have not yet taken up this opportunity… but that it sounds so gross in and of itself that it is scaring them away.

So is it a matter of some picky eaters?

Well, the anti-ketchup-on-eggs movement took this debate to the polls and asked the Lakewood High student body what their thoughts were on this hot topic. The results revealed that the majority of Lakewood students are not in favor of ketchup on eggs in a ratio of 69:41.

The poll seems to have settled this debate, but try it for yourselves to find your own answer to this question… does ketchup belong on eggs?
